Scotts Bluff County Attorney Office is hiring a Victim Witness Coordinator.
This position provides responsible legal services focused on supporting and assisting victims of domestic violence and related crimes. The role involves advising victims and their families throughout legal and court proceedings, helping them navigate the justice system, and ensuring their rights are upheld. Duties include assisting victims in obtaining restitution, preparing them for court testimony, and supplying case information to prosecuting attorneys. The work requires technical knowledge of specific legal processes, sound personal judgment, and the ability to work independently under general supervision from attorneys. Performance is evaluated through reports, and the accuracy and thoroughness of victim interviews and documentation.
Key Responsibilities: Support and advocate for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, assault, vandalism, and related crimes. Conduct thorough victim interviews, explain court procedures, prepare victims for testimony, and accompany them to court. Assess needs and provide referrals to community resources; assist with restitution, including gathering damage and medical cost estimates. Guide victims in completing court documents and notify them of protection order violations or offender release. Provide case information to prosecuting attorneys and keep victims informed of case progress. Collaborate with County and State agencies to promote victims’ rights and restitution. Maintain accurate calendars and detailed contact logs for reporting and documentation.
Requirements: Knowledge of legal terminology, legal documentation, and applicable local, state, and federal laws. Organizational skills are essential; ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines; maintain effective working relationships with the public, attorneys, coworkers, courts, law enforcement, and community agencies. Ability to manage and safeguard confidential records; have strong written and verbal communication for preparing detailed reports. Ability to work under stress.
Must be able to pass criminal background check. Position is available for Veteran’s Preference. Scotts Bluff County is an EEO/AA employer.
