Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities
- Accurately and timely documents patient assessments, interventions, evaluates overall response of patient/family.
- patient/family response to care, and revises the plan of care as needed, along with any patient/family education.
- Assists with post-operative Physical Therapy protocols and research / standard of care questionnaires assignments based on patient/diagnosis.
- Effectively assists in the prevention, assessment and treatment of sports related injury by providing brace fittings, functional assessments, home exercise programs, etc.
- Coordinates outside therapy and other referrals for patient families as needed.
- Enters orders and referrals as delegated by the provider or standing policy
- Performs telephone triage assessment to manage a patient/parent/guardian call to determine the urgency of the medical issue, appropriate recommendation for care and intervention (with escalation to provider as appropriate), and timing of appointment scheduling, if needed.
- Provides individualized patient/parent education utilizing input from the family
- Communicates sport-specific education and limitations with athletic trainers, coaches, etc.
- Takes responsibility for own professional development, asking questions to gain professional insight, enhance clinical skills and function as an effective part of the team.
- Participates in educational events & serves as a preceptor for new staff
- Accountable for meeting the standards of patient/personal safety and in maintaining a clean and therapeutic environment
- Assists clinic staff with administrative needs
- Maintains patient information and documentation in electronic medical record
- Abides by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality, and patient rights
- Supports hospital and departmental performance improvement goals
- Supports quality care through compliance with departmental and organizational policies and guidelines, and external agency guidelines, standards, or regulations
- Supports departmental initiatives and change efforts
- Practices financial and resource stewardship
- Engages in strong communication, acts as team player in supporting mission and vision of organization, and abides by organization’s core values
- Additional duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in an athletic training program or related field required
- National Athletic Trainer’s Association certification required
- License in the state of Texas required
- BLS required
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience preferred
