Type: full-time, non-exempt position

Schedule:  Approximately 40 hours a week with occasional weekends, events, and holidays.

Minimum starting hourly rate: $18/hr

Scott Family Amazeum Overview

The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas that creates a fun environment where risk taking, imagining, problem solving, discovery, collaboration, and exploration bring children and adults together to learn and grow.

Core Purpose:  The Amazeum exists to spark and nurture the curious and creative spirit in all of us.

Through experiences with the Amazeum, individuals and the community are engaged in building relationships and developing identities as creative, curious, and innovative shapers for the region. Learning at the Amazeum is an active, playful exploration that inspires curiosity. It is rooted in inquiry-based discovery and involves an element of risk. Hands-on learning opportunities allow guests to exercise critical thinking in the context of play.

The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.

Position Summary

The Exhibits Technician supports the mission of the Amazeum by ensuring the daily safe and effective operation of the museum’s exhibits. This individual is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, repairs and improvements of exhibits. This individual will provide ongoing support for the maintenance and upkeep of the museum’s fabrication and storage areas and equipment. This individual will collaboratively prototype, develop, fabricate and install new permanent and temporary exhibitions. The Exhibits Technician reports to the Senior Manager of Exhibits.

Essential Functions 

• Conduct exhibits start-up on a daily basis and perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure satisfactory performance and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and make repairs and improvements to exhibits.
• Be open and responsive to staff and guests’ exhibit-related needs.
• Design, develop, prototype, fabricate and install new permanent and temporary exhibits.
• Document, maintain and update records of the exhibits collection and components in database
• Maintain and upkeep the fabrication shop, storage and other facility areas and equipment for optimal efficiency. 
• Coordinate with team members in determining resource needs for the production and installation of permanent and temporary exhibits both on and offsite.
• Collaboratively develop and produce technical manuals, reports, and other written materials.

Minimum Requirements

• 18 years of age 
• 2 years of successful experience working in a fabrication shop, production environment or similar setting operating various power tools and equipment
• Demonstrated fabrication skills in wood, metal, plastics, and other building materials
• Demonstrated skills in the troubleshooting and maintenance of complex electrical, mechanical, digital and A/V systems
• Proficient in Microsoft suite (Office, Word, Excel).
• Proficient in Google suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive).
• Excellent problem solving and communication skills, to include writing skills
• Detail oriented, with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-volume workflow
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Experience working on complex tasks

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and safe use of ladders.
• Ability to handle materials, pulling, carrying and pushing.
• Occasional lifting of various materials and equipment to a maximum of 75 pounds.
• Some activities may require travel and transportation of materials by reliable personal vehicle.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with 3D CAD software (Fusion360, Solidworks, Sketchup, etc.)
• Experience with 2D design software (Inkscape, Adobe suite, etc.)
• Experience operating CNC fabrication equipment (e.g., mill, router, laser)
• Experience operating scissor lifts, forklifts, and similar equipment
• Experience in design, theater, art, building or similar creative production environments
• Experience with interactive exhibit design 
• Experience in digital coding or software development
