About the Role:
The Project Accountant plays a critical role in managing the financial aspects of projects from initiation through completion, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of project costs and revenues. This position is responsible for maintaining detailed job costing records, reconciling bank statements, and preparing comprehensive financial reports that provide insight into project performance. The Project Accountant collaborates closely with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure contract billing is accurate and timely, supporting effective cash flow management. By overseeing accruals and travel and expense reconciliations, this role ensures compliance with accounting standards and internal policies. Ultimately, the Project Accountant contributes to the financial success of projects by providing precise and actionable financial data that supports strategic decision-making.
Please note - this role is not eligible for remote or hybrid work. This is an in office position during regular business hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience in project accounting or job costing within a corporate or construction environment.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in financial reporting and contract billing processes.
- Experience with bank reconciliations and managing accruals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional accounting certification such as CPA or CMA.
- Experience with accounting software and ERP systems relevant to project accounting.
- Familiarity with travel and expense management systems.
- Background in managing accounting for multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update detailed job costing records to track project expenses and revenues accurately.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure financial data integrity and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Prepare and analyze cost reports and financial statements related to ongoing projects for management review.
- Manage contract billing processes, ensuring invoices are accurate, compliant, and submitted on schedule.
- Process and verify travel and expense reports in accordance with company policies and project budgets.
- Record and monitor accruals to reflect project costs and revenues in the correct accounting periods.
- Collaborate with project managers and finance teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Ensure compliance with general accounting principles and internal controls throughout all project accounting activities.
