Senior Commercial HVAC Service Technician / Technical Mentor
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial HVAC Service Technician with extensive experience diagnosing, repairing, commissioning, and maintaining commercial and industrial HVAC systems ranging from 10 to 300 tons. This position is designed for a technician who can independently troubleshoot complex mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, and controls-related issues while serving as a technical leader within our service department.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and commission commercial HVAC equipment from 10 to 300 tons.
- Perform advanced electrical, refrigeration, mechanical, and controls diagnostics.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, sequence of operations, and piping diagrams.
- Perform root-cause failure analysis and recommend long-term corrective solutions.
- Maintain accurate service documentation and communicate professionally with customers.
- Assist with system startups, retrofits, and major equipment replacements.
- Support emergency service calls and scheduled preventive maintenance.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
A critical responsibility of this position is developing the next generation of HVAC technicians. The successful candidate will:
- Mentor and train apprentice and junior service technicians in proper troubleshooting techniques, diagnostics, and safe work practices.
- Lead by example through professionalism, technical excellence, and integrity.
- Share field knowledge and best practices to improve the overall technical capabilities of the service team.
- Assist management in evaluating technician performance and identifying training opportunities.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and quality workmanship.
- Help build a team of technicians capable of delivering industry-leading service.
Required Technical Experience
- Advanced refrigeration diagnostics, including superheat, subcooling, compressor analysis, and refrigerant circuit troubleshooting.
- Three-phase electrical troubleshooting (24V through 480V).
- Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) diagnostics and control integration.
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Hydronic systems, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, VAV systems, rooftop units, chillers, and make-up air units.
- Strong understanding of airflow, psychrometrics, system commissioning, and equipment optimization.
Qualifications
- EPA Universal Certification (required).
- Minimum of 7–10 years of commercial HVAC service experience.
- Proven experience servicing equipment from 10 to 300 tons.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
