The Behavioral Intervention Specialist provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive behavior support services to LGBTQIA individuals experiencing emotional, behavioral, mental health, and/or social challenges.  This role focuses on improving emotional regulation, coping skills, interpersonal functioning, crisis prevention, and overall quality of life through individualized interventions, advocacy, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.  The specialist promotes a safe, affirming, and inclusive environment that respects each person's identity, lived experience, and goals.  

REPORTS TO:

Behavioral Health Coordinator - Assistant Director Behavioral Health Services - Director Behavioral Health Services

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct behavioral assessments to identify individual strengths, needs, triggers, and support strategies.  
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized behavior support plans, individualized Crisis Support Plan, et. al.
  • Provide one-on-one and group-based behavioral interventions.
  • Support clients in developing coping skills, communication skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution strategies.  
  • Use trauma-informed, person-centered, and affirming approaches in all interactions. 
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when needed.  
  • Collaborate with mental health providers, case managers, medical staff, families and community supports.
  • Advocate for LGBTQIA affirming care and help reduce barriers to accessing behavioral health and support services.  
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of services, progress, and incidents.  
  • Monitor progress toward behavioral goals and adjust interventions as appropriate. 
  • Provide on-going education/training/support of staff and caregivers on effective behavior support strategies and LGBTQIA cultural humility. 
  • Participate in all program planning meetings and case reviews to discuss treatment plan goals, behavioral strategies and objectives, assessments and behavioral observations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director and/or Behavioral Health Coordinator of Behavioral Health Services.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree or Batchelor's Degree in psychology or related fields from an accredited college or university with plans to enroll in a Master's Degree program from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of one year experience working with people receiving services in care.  
  • Must possess well developed communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Must be proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with team members. 
  • Capacity to maintain high levels of quality of work and productivity. 
  • Ideal candidate will be flexible with working hours and demonstrate reliability in relation to attendance and punctuality.
