Scientist / Sr Scientist
100% onsite - South San Francisco, CA
6mth initial contract with likely extension / conversion opportunity
We are exclusively supporting an early stage biotech, who is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motived Scientist to enhance there capabilities to assess novel therapeutics in rodent and in vitro neurodegenerative disease models.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in either RNA biology or neuroscience, with prior experience quantifying gene expression. A strong profile is someone who has also had experience with animal work, and skills in data visualization/analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and prepare tissues for workflows to assess DNA, RNA, and protein levels and localization.
- Quantify gene expression levels for targets of interest in various mouse models. This includes automated tissue processing and liquid handling dependent RT-qPCR workflows.
- Coordinate in vivo activities with other members of the biology team.
- Conduct histological and/or protein quantification analysis on a variety of mouse tissues.
- Collaborate with in vitro teams to validate reagents in tissue culture dependent assays.
- Data recording and analysis using software programs including Prism, R, Python, etc.
- Maintain organized and detailed records of laboratory experiments in electronic laboratory notebooks.
- Present results at lab meetings and strategy meetings to inform decision making.
Qualifications:
- MS with 5 years experience or PhD with 0-2 yrs experience in Neuroscience, Physiology, Molecular, or Cell Biology. Open to individuals who have only had academic experience.
- Exceptional organizational, time management, and critical thinking skills, strong lab notebook practices and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm & interest in cellular and molecular neuroscience, especially regarding neurodegenerative disease modeling.
- Experience with animal models (comfort working with mice regularly)
- Track record of establishing scientific pipelines and processes.
- Experience with collecting and preparing a range of tissues for immunohistochemical staining.
- Experience with variety of molecular biology techniques (e.g. qPCR, ELISA, IHC, MSD, FACS, high content imaging).
- Demonstrated ability to manipulate and visualize large datasets.
Preferred backgrounds:
- Tissue culture experience a plus.
- Experience with automation methods, especially liquid handling, a plus.
