Job Summary
Performs limited clinical diagnostic procedures for patients with sleep related disorders. Administration of oxygen or positive airway pressure must be under the direct supervision of a registered polysomnographer. Other duties may include scoring, community education, marketing and inventory management.
Essential Functions
- Prepares for the arrival of the patient by setting up and preparing the equipment for the ordered test
- Interviews patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures
- Performs testing and any additional testing required for sleep disorder that is noted
- Scores, interprets, and reports results of sleep studies
- Educates patients about test results, sleep disorders, community support groups, and available resources
- Prepares, calibrates, repairs, and maintains equipment required for testing
- Determines and reports needed repairs and replacements
- Maintains proper supplies to care for patients
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with patients, patient families, laboratory staff, physicians, and other members of the hospital staff
- Monitors the patient throughout the night, observing cardiac rhythm and respiration of abnormalities

Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of accredited Polysomnography program required
- Graduate of JRCRTE and AMA approved School of Respiratory Therapy preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- None required
Experience
- 3-5 years experience as a polysomnographic technician required.
