The Continuous Improvement Manufacturing Engineer supports corporate engineering efforts while driving CI initiatives across multiple plants. This role leads plant‑level improvement activities, supports new product launches, and ensures that best practices and standardized processes are consistently applied. The position also serves as a key trainer and technical resource for CI methods and tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the organization’s primary subject matter expert for continuous improvement methodologies.
- Plan, facilitate, and participate in CI/kaizen events involving cycle-time analysis, problem-solving, equipment setup reduction, standard work, 5S, layout optimization, visual management, and error-proofing.
- Coach and mentor plant teams on CI/TPS principles to build site-level capability and sustain improvements.
- Promote best practice standardization across all facilities through regular communication and site visits.
- Partner with manufacturing operations to improve efficiency using Lean, Six Sigma, and CI tools.
- Maintain and update CI documentation, procedures, and standards within the designated document management system.
- Support new product launches by ensuring processes are designed to meet labor, cycle time, throughput, and scrap KPIs at start of production.
- Capture and maintain trial-run production data to support launch performance tracking.
- Develop clear work instructions and training materials to ensure ongoing sustainability of improvements.
- Contribute to product launch readiness tasks such as safety/environmental reviews, layout validation, trial reporting, and PFMEA inputs.
- Provide feedback to engineering leaders to improve equipment and tooling standards based on field learnings.
- Champion plant efficiency and safety improvements.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience (5-10 years preferred).
- Strong expertise in TPS/CI/Lean principles with the ability to train and mentor others effectively.
- High mechanical and technical aptitude, with strong understanding of manufacturing systems and processes.
- Hands-on troubleshooting experience with complex manufacturing equipment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical and analytical concepts to practical technical problems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and related design or engineering software.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficient in AutoCAD or equivalent CAD tools.
Travel
- Approximately 50% travel required to support multiple plant locations.
