Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Shop Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a wide range of MWD related tools. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that MWD tools are operational, tested, and shipped in a timely manner to meet operational demands. The MWD Shop Technician will work closely with field teams and ensure that all MWD tools meet quality and safety standards before deployment. This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for detailed work, diagnostics, and hands-on problem solving in a fast-paced environment.
Ideally need to be within 35min drive of office for quick callouts.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Tool Maintenance and Testing:
– Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and testing on MWD tools to ensure operational functionality and safety.
– Test incoming tools, ensuring timely analysis and functionality checks.
– Troubleshoot any technical issues and perform necessary repairs on MWD tools.
– Conduct testing of tools from the Non-Conformance Report (NCR) shelving area and ensure they meet quality standards.
2. Organization and Cleanliness:
– Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in the MWD Lab, cage, and bay areas.
– Ensure all work areas comply with safety and operational standards.
3. Packing and Shipping:
– Assist in the packing, preparation, and shipment of MWD tools and equipment, ensuring that all components are properly secured and accounted for.
– Track outgoing shipments and ensure timely dispatch to meet operational deadlines.
4. Inventory and Tool Management:
– Manage and maintain accurate records of MWD tool inventory, including tools that are in use, in testing, or in repair.
– Assist in keeping inventory organized and report any shortages or issues to the supervisor.
5. Documentation:
– Document all maintenance and testing performed on MWD tools.
– Maintain detailed reports on tool performance, testing results, and repairs for future reference.
6. Safety Compliance:
– Adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper handling and storage of MWD tools and chemicals.
– Conduct safety inspections and report any safety hazards to management.
7. Team Collaboration:
– Work closely with MWD field teams to coordinate the availability and readiness of MWD tools.
– Assist in the coordination of repairs and shipments based on field requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education:
– High School Diploma or equivalent required.
– Technical certification in electronics, mechanics, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience:
– Previous experience in oilfield services, specifically with MWD tools or drilling equipment, is preferred but not required.
– Experience with troubleshooting and repair of electronic/mechanical tools is a plus.
- Skills and Competencies:
– Strong mechanical and technical aptitude, with the ability to diagnose and repair tools.
– Familiarity with testing equipment and procedures.
– Attention to detail and the ability to follow detailed procedures.
– Basic knowledge of inventory management and shipping/receiving practices.
– Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
– Good communication and teamwork skills.
– Proficiency in basic computer applications for documentation and reporting.
- Physical Requirements:
– Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
– Comfortable working in shop environments, which may include exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and loud noises.
– Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces as necessary.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time position with occasional weekend and overtime work as needed to meet project deadlines or assist in urgent tool repairs and shipments.
