What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electro Mechanical Technician position at Science?

We are seeking an outstanding electromechanical technician with a passion for solving some of neuroscience’s hardest problems and most serious unmet medical needs. You must be motivated, curious, and consider unconventional solutions. Work is highly collaborative and cross functional. Work includes electrical manufacturing, making fully compliant all our medical devices, with always in mind the safety of the patient. We are also seeking a technical to work on electronics assembly and test, tools and fixtures operation and assembly for biological, mechanical and electronics teams. At this early stage, speed is of utmost importance, so you must be able to pivot, and approach challenges from multiple directions simultaneously. You must be able to move quickly without losing important details, and understand when to modulate for high precision tasks. All challenges are highly collaborative.
Role responsibilities:
- Perform assembly, rework, and programming of PCBs and electronic boards
- Manufacture and assemble electromechanical systems, including wiring and interconnects
- Work closely with the engineers to conduct device functional testing and support root cause investigation of non-functional units
- Work within and respect ESD and laser safety controlled environments
- Provide support to the quality team for receiving inspections of all types of electronic components
- Follow assembly SOPs and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and rework instructions
- Ensure the verification/maintenance of electronic equipment used on the production line in collaboration with the quality team
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation
- Support rapid prototyping and component 3D printing
- Operate and maintain machine shop and electrical tools, including PCBA assembly equipment
Key qualifications:
- Experience with 3D printing in a professional setting
- Micro fabrication or microelectronics exposure
- Proficient at soldering and reworking through-hole and surface mount components on PCBs
- Machine shop tool proficiency
- Ability to follow assembly SOPs and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and rework instructions
Preferred qualifications:
- 3 years of relevant technician experience
- Class III medical device experience
- Experience with oscilloscopes, DMMs, and other lab instruments
- Experience programming and maintaining PCBA assembly or manufacturing equipment
- Microcontrollers and basic board layout
- SolidWorks experience
- GD&T experience
- Robotics experience
- Experience working with surgical or biological requirements
Salary/Pay Range:
Science is required under California law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-time position is $35 - $55 per hour equity benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
