Visitor Services Associate & Gift Shop Coordinator (Part-Time)About the Position

The Science Mill is seeking an energetic, organized, and customer-focused Visitor Services Associate & Gift Shop Coordinator to join our team. This dual-role position is responsible for creating an exceptional guest experience while overseeing the daily operations of our museum gift shop.

As a member of the Visitor Services team, you'll be one of the first people our guests meet—welcoming visitors, assisting with admissions, answering questions, and helping families make the most of their museum experience. In addition, you'll coordinate all aspects of the gift shop, including purchasing merchandise, maintaining inventory, merchandising displays, and ensuring the shop remains well-stocked, organized, and inviting.

This position reports directly to the Visitor Services Manager.

Work Schedule

• Part-time, up to 25 hours per week
• Tuesday–Saturday schedule
• Occasional Mondays may be required.
• Availability during weekends, school holidays, and special events is required.

Primary ResponsibilitiesVisitor Services

• Provide exceptional customer service to visitors of all ages.
• Welcome guests, process admissions, answer the main phone line, and assist with gift shop purchases.
• Open and close cash registers and assist with daily opening and closing procedures.
• Promote Science Mill memberships, programs, camps, and special events to visitors in person and over the phone.
• Help guests navigate exhibits and encourage hands-on STEM exploration.
• Work collaboratively with museum staff to create a positive, engaging visitor experience.
• Assist with light facility upkeep, exhibit troubleshooting, and general museum appearance throughout the day.

Gift Shop Coordination

• Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the museum gift shop.
• Research, select, and order merchandise and retail supplies within an approved purchasing budget.
• Monitor inventory levels and recommend new products based on visitor interests, seasonal trends, and sales performance.
• Receive, price, label, and stock merchandise.
• Maintain accurate inventory records within the Point of Sale (POS) system.
• Conduct regular inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
• Create attractive product displays and merchandise the gift shop to maximize sales and enhance the guest experience.
• Work closely with the Director of Finance to establish pricing, maintain inventory records, reconcile inventory, and support retail reporting.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and inviting retail environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in customer service, retail, guest services, or hospitality preferred.
• Retail merchandising, purchasing, or inventory management experience is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Comfortable learning new technology, including Point of Sale (POS) systems.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently.
• Positive attitude with a genuine passion for creating memorable guest experiences.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
• Availability to work weekdays, weekends, school holidays, and occasional special events.

Pay: $13.00 - $16.00 per hour
