Job Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer/Planner to join our purchasing team and oversee a dedicated portfolio of vendor accounts. This role is key to streamlining procurement operations and fostering productive supplier relationships. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, collaborative energy, and a sharp eye for detail, ensuring every process is executed with precision and reliability.
Responsibilities:
• Create, communicate, and place purchase orders with contract manufacturers for the processing of finished goods for both Schylling and direct shipments to specific customers.
• Manage inventory levels, safety stock recommendations, fulfillment strategies for assigned product categories/suppliers. This needs to be done initially on a bi-weekly fixed schedule, reviewing items at least twice a month.
• Contact Suppliers/freight forwarder/broker daily/weekly to ensure on time deliveries, schedules are met and new orders are received on-time.
• Determine actions to take to resolve issues such as capacity constraints and material shortfalls.
• Partner with the Quality Manager to ensure any required safety testing, inspections, and compliance audits are conducted and managed through to completion for shipments.
• Coordinate with internal teams (Customer Service, Product Development, and others) to provide suppliers with complete and accurate order details, including packaging, labelling, and handling requirements.
• Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies and procedures throughout the ordering process.
• Handle and maintain all documentation with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate shipments are aligned with production and delivery schedules.
• Identify and address supply chain issues such as material shortages, production delays, or capacity constraints.
• Maintain accurate records within the ERP system, including supplier information, item information, lead times, purchase order tracking, and payment status.
• Support process improvement initiatives across purchasing, planning, and fulfillment operations.
• Reviews development and pre-production samples and addresses any concerns with Product Development teams.
• Reviews quality issues and works with China factories to resolve.
• Investigates and solves problems resulting from quality defects however caused. Ensuring and measuring the total cost of quality.
• Responsible for timely payments to Vendors.
Qualifications:
• Experience working with suppliers and/or factories in China
• 3 years of experience in buying, planning, or supply chain coordination in consumer goods, toys, or seasonal product industries.
• Hands-on knowledge of purchasing, importing, and product development
• Experience with international sourcing, logistics, and export documentation preferred
• Understanding of regulatory compliance, safety testing, and product inspections preferred
• Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, MS Office)
• Excellent cross-functional communication and organizational skills
• Highly organized and effective at managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines
• Strong project management skills with an understanding of product lifecycles and development timelines
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Motivated self-starter with a proactive mindset and a passion for following through
• BA or BS degree or equivalent experience in a technical degree.
• Ability to be on-site three days per week
The base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000. Offered base compensation within this range will be determined based on a candidate’s qualifications, experience, geographic location and other factors relevant to the scope and responsibilities of this role.
