The Communications Specialist has the job of bringing the stories of the Schwartz Farms teams to life. From crafting newsletters and managing content, to refreshing our digital spaces and planning company events, this organized, creative individual will lead engaging, data-driven storytelling that connects our team, celebrates agriculture and strengthens the Schwartz Farms community ties.
A LITTLE ABOUT US:
Schwartz Farms, Inc. was founded in 1978 and at the time was predominantly involved in crop farming. Although Schwartz Farms is still involved in farming, today's primary operations are within the pork industry. Schwartz Farms, Inc. employs over 550 full-time individuals, and owns sows in the upper Midwest, predominantly in Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska. We also utilize approximately 300 independent contractors. As a premier pork producer, Schwartz Farms embraces itself for a challenging and rewarding future.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate Schwartz Farms values of Integrity, Respect, Excellence and Adaptability
- Develop and execute annual departmental business plan and goals supporting business priorities and overarching strategic plans.
- Coordinate, edit and publish/produce external and internal communications per established cadence (Pig Pen, Safety Newsletter, Grower Newsletter, etc.), leaning on company culture, using analytics to understand key metrics and improve audience engagement.
- Partner with team members to create and maintain a content calendar to inform internal and external communication priorities aligned with business needs and social relevance.
- Develop, create, edit and publish communication programming, including internal and external campaigns, that tell the story of and celebrate and honor team members, organizational values, the organization, the communities in which we operate and agriculture in general, using data analytics to drive continuous improvement and engagement.
- Maintain and refresh company assets (banners, signage, brochures, note cards, etc.)
- Maintain, refresh and communicate company templates for consistent use (power point presentations, letter head, etc.)
- Maintain and refresh company digital assets (photo and video library) for use in content creation.
- Maintain and refresh company website.
- Support teammates in the development of presentations and materials used for internal and external events, presenting a warm, professional, cohesive unit.
- Support and/or lead event planning and execution as directed.
- Lead/Support/Facilitate purchases and inventory of branded merchandise.
- Lead community engagement initiatives, including donation review committee, facilitating community participation (parades, festivals, etc., volunteer programs, etc.
- Collaborate with local employees to enhance social capital in operational areas
- Support Director of Public Affairs and Environmental Stewardship in media engagement, (press releases, media monitoring, crisis response) as directed
Miscellaneous
- Ensure privacy policies and procedures established by SFI regarding protected health information are implemented and maintained
- Advocate and engage in SFI's animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse

Minimum Qualifications:
- BA in public relations, communications or similar field of study
- Proficient in Canva and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with social media, including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, LinkedIn, social media groups, virtual communities, content management systems, etc.
- Experience with website design
- Experience in storytelling; content creation and production, including photo and video-editing
- Experience with graphic design
- Acceptable MVR
- Able to lift 15 pounds

Salary : $55,000 - $70,000
