Job Summary
Schwab Industries is seeking a highly motivated Mill Manager with strong leadership abilities and extensive hands-on CNC milling experience. The ideal candidate has a solid background in managing milling operations, supporting complex machine setups, machining large weldments, and troubleshooting production issues. This role requires experience with Fanuc, Fidia, and Heidenhain controls, proficiency with CAM systems and precision measurement, and the ability to lead teams while driving safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and oversee all milling department operations
- Assign personnel and schedule mill capacity to meet production and delivery requirements
- Lead daily workflow and provide direction to operators and programmers
- Participate in production planning and department meetings
- Communicate job priorities, engineering changes, and customer requirements to the team
- Identify and resolve production, quality, or scheduling issues
- Promote continuous improvement in machining processes, tooling, and workflow
- Utilize customer-supplied models, drawings, datum schemes, and GD&T
- Ensure electronic job folders contain current and accurate engineering data
- Support CNC machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting as required
- Ensure NC programs, setup sheets, and job documentation are accurate and up to date
- Oversee implementation of engineering changes to fixtures, tooling, and check aids
- Ensure machining operations meet dimensional, surface finish, and configuration requirements
- Support machining of large tooling and welded structures, including setup strategy, sequence planning, and part stability considerations
- Ensure effective use of CAM software and approved machining strategies
Skills
- Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation
- Strong leadership, communication, and time management skills
- Advanced mechanical aptitude
- High proficiency in CNC milling operations (3-axis and 5-axis preferred)
- High proficiency in machine setup and operation
- Experience machining and cutting large weldments, including fixturing, distortion control, and machining sequence planning
- Proficiency with precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, indicators, gage pins)
- Proficiency with CAM software (WorkNC preferred)
- Experience with CNC controls including Fanuc, Fidia, and Heidenhain
- Knowledge of lock-out/tag-out procedures
- Ability to operate crane and Hi-Lo equipment
- Intermediate math skills
Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
