Training and Consultative Staff (TaC) – Transition Specialist
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Special Education or related fields required, advanced study preferred.
- At least 5 years of classroom experience is preferred.
- Strong background in exceptionalities, curriculum and special education interventions and strategies.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, computer and organizational skills to develop contacts and presentations for the needs of the staff and students or the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit and member districts
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance, training and information to local school districts within the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit in initiative areas assigned including:
- Indicator 13 Effective Transition Practices and ensuring Success and Compliance towards Competitive, Integrated Employment.
- Indicator 14 PaPOS Exit and Post Survey completion.
- Project RENEW (Rehabilitation for Employment, Natural Supports, Education, and Work).
- Monitor and collaborate with work experience and job development programs at the Maple Avenue Campus to assure that staff has expertise regarding programming, regulations, and specific services and education initiatives in the area of transition, work experience programming, behavior and special education interventions and strategies.
- Direct and maintain a Transition Council with member districts, local agencies and community employers. Continually include knowledge-based information on regulations and requirements, training opportunities, current trends in transition and work experiences.
- Coordinate and chair the annual Schuylkill County Transition Fair.
Responsibilities:
- Provide training and follow-up to staff at the Intermediate Unit, as well as district programs, to ensure proper implementation of trained applications under certifications held by the specialist.
- Utilize and disseminate materials and information as obtained to appropriate Schuylkill Intermediate Unit staff members and member districts.
- Maintain a knowledge base of new theories and practices in the field of Special Education related to each specific initiative.
- Develop specific training materials to the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit and member districts and present in various manners to meet the needs of these individuals.
- Participate in PATTAN sponsored training sessions and planning meetings and disseminate these PATTAN materials at a local level.
- Perform as a team member with other Specialists of the TaC Staff and other departments.

Method of Evaluation:
- Annual evaluations made by the Director of Special Education and/or their designee in accordance with provisions established by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit #29 Evaluation Process for Professional Employees.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Terms of Employment:
- 185 day teachers’ calendar.
- Ten (10) month year with ability to adjust the scheduling with approval by the Director of Special Education or their designee to meet requests of services by districts and IU administration. Receives benefits as per the negotiated agreement between the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors and the Bargaining Unit

- This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done mainly indoors but could include outside tasks.
