Physical Therapy Assistant
Qualifications:
• Associate of applied science degree from an accredited institution.
• A valid license to practice physical therapy in the State of Pennsylvania.
Essential Responsibilities:
• To assist the physical therapist in facilitating optimum fine and gross motor development, gross motor perceptual development and sensory motor integration of individual students in order to increase and/or maintain his/her ability to perform functional activities of daily living and playing (i.e. ambulation, transfers, self-care, physical education activities) as is required to assist students with special needs with a variety of diagnosis.
Examples of Duties:
• To carry out the appropriate treatment plan as designed by the physical therapist under the supervision of the physical therapist.
• To alert the therapist of any progression or regression of the student’s therapy program.
• Write and instruct home program for students and their family.
• Order appropriate materials needed for the physical therapy department.
• Responsible for equipment inspection and assist with necessary alternatives.
• Keep a thorough on-going record of students receiving physical therapy.
• When appropriate, serve as a member of the multi-disciplinary team: attend IEP conferences and develop IEP’s in area of which he/she is responsible.
• Consult with student’s physician regarding the need for a physical therapy prescription prior to therapist’s evaluation and treatment.
• Collaborate and communicate with Physical Therapist, parents, teachers, administrators and all parties related to the child’s current placement.

Reports To:
• Physical Therapist and/or Director of Special Education.
Method of Evaluation
• Performance of the job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Special Education or assigned designee in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy and evaluation of personnel.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• None
Terms of Employment:
• One Hundred and eighty seven (187) day work year. Salary and work year to be established by the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors.

• This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs. independently; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Indoor/outdoor work year round is a requirement of this position.

Salary : $38,000 - $42,000
