The Assistant Shop Foreman supports the Shop Foreman in overseeing daily operations within a manufacturing and fabrication environment. This role assists in coordinating production activities, supporting shop personnel, enforcing safety practices, and maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient workspace. The Assistant Shop Foreman acts as a hands-on leader on the shop floor, helping ensure production schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met.
About the Role
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
- Team Support & Leadership
- Assist in overseeing day-to-day activities of welding fabricators, powder coating technicians, and steel grinders.
- Support training initiatives, onboarding, and ongoing skill development for shop personnel.
- Provide feedback and guidance to team members to promote continuous improvement.
- Help foster a positive, professional, and respectful work environment.
- Exhibit regular and reliable attendance and adherence to scheduled work hours.
- Shop Operations
- Support coordination of daily workflows to meet production deadlines and priorities.
- Assist in monitoring equipment condition and reporting maintenance or repair needs.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free shop environment.
- Step in to assist with hands-on fabrication, coating, or grinding activities as needed.
- Safety & Compliance
- Support enforcement of safety policies, including proper use of PPE and adherence to OSHA standards.
- Assist with conducting safety inspections and participating in safety meetings.
- Report safety concerns, incidents, or near-misses to the Shop Foreman or management.
- Help reinforce a safety-first culture on the shop floor.
- Quality Assurance
- Assist with inspections of completed work to ensure quality standards and specifications are met.
- Support identification and resolution of quality issues in collaboration with shop personnel and leadership.
- Administrative & Communication Support
- Assist with tracking inventory of shop materials, tools, and supplies.
- Help prepare basic reports related to shop productivity, safety observations, or maintenance needs.
- Communicate effectively with the Shop Foreman, senior management, and other departments regarding shop activities.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical training or certifications in welding, coating, or related trades preferred.
• 2–4 years of experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or shop environment; prior lead or assistant supervisory experience preferred.
Salary : $30 - $36
