The Driver is responsible for driving company roll-off, luggers, open-tops, and van trailers to transport scrap material to and from specified locations for processing.
Essential Functions
- Load/unload lugger boxes, roll-off boxes, dry vans and flatbeds
- Complete the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR), noting any defects on assigned equipment, daily Driver Log, and Monthly Mileage Report.
- Service customers as directed by dispatcher/manager and work schedule
- Maintain safe and professional driving on the roads and at customer locations
- Verify all loads are safe for the road
- Weigh in and out on the scales; complete and process all paperwork pertaining to the load
- Inspect vehicle and notify maintenance of any concerns
- Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, tarping systems or covers and protects materials, as needed
- Follow all company safety policies/procedures and federal/state regulations regarding vehicles, to include, reporting all accidents/incidents
- Identify different types of scrap metals and materials
- Clean and perform basic up-keep/maintenance on assigned vehicles
- Must have effective communication skills in order to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Keep all required logs and records current and accurate to comply with company policies/procedures and federal/state regulations and laws
- Must be able to interact in person with coworkers and the public.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
