Team Leader - Shop Trainer

While working closely with the Plant Leadership Team, this position facilitates critical beginner training to newly hired Production Workers in the key areas of plant fabrication.  This position will effectively coach, mentor, and train the next generation of skilled fabrication craftworkers.  If you want to develop and lead the next generation of American Builders, this role is for you.

Key Performance Objectives

• Collaborate with Plant Leadership Team on the design and development of fabrication training for production new hires.
• Collaborate with Plant Leadership Team on the timely execution, roll-out, and overall implementation of fabrication training. 
• Assist with developing course material, training content, and learning objectives (e.g. daily, weekly, and monthly schedules).
• Develop evaluations that clearly and objectively measure learning performance.
• Closely monitor, supervise, and effectively teach the fundamentals and foundational skills of shop fabrication including Schuff Steel safety standards. 
• Effectively coach, mentor, and train the next generation of skilled fabrication builders through clearly explainable training goals and learning objectives.
• Effectively communicate training procedures in a manner that is easily comprehended.
• Effectively motivate/engage trainees while still providing critical feedback.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in Structural Steel Fabrication ensuring that each trainee is receiving and understanding all required course material. 
• Conduct Weekly Training Evaluations for each trainee.  Identify where learning gaps exist and provide recommendation for improvements. 
• Evaluate Training Program making recommendations to Plant Leadership Team as needed and required for the purpose of continuous improvement.
• Prepare daily presentations, instructions, and hands-on training guidance with respect to all tools, training materials, and training delivery methods.  Training to occur in shop, welding labs, and classroom environment depending on the subject topic. 
• Serve as a “Role Model” to trainees exhibiting professional communication, humility, courtesy, safety, and respect to everyone at-all times. 
• Demonstrate Schuff Steel Values to trainees through effective leadership behaviors.

Work Experience

At least Five (5) years of related experience in Structural Steel Fabrication (Welding, Fitting, and Machine Operations) along with 2-3years of leader experience.  Must be able to effectively present and “deliver” complex technical material to non-technical employees in such a manner that is easily understood and identified over a  period of time.  Must have excellent patience and teaching skills.  Strong communications in oral speech, as well as strong listening skills, are required.

Education/Training

High school diploma/general equivalency diploma (GED).  Certification in Welding.  Blueprint reading with complex building structure knowledge.  OSHA certified.  Subject Matter expert with Schuff Steel Safety standards.   This position will be highly encouraged to participate in ongoing professional Learning and Development (L&D) training in the areas of curriculum design, training evaluation, and delivery methodologies.

Software Technology & Equipment

The position will require the frequent use of MS Windows 10, MS Office 365 including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.   The position will utilize Welding Machines, Cutting Torches, Grinders, and other heavy operative and industry materials to facilitate training. 

Work Environment

This position will require the need to be outdoors.  Thus, exposure to inclement weather is imminent.  The work atmosphere is in a safety-sensitive industrial work environment.  Reasonable accommodations made upon request under the ADA.
