Position Overview:
The primary function of the Health Information Management Assistant is to support the HIM department by organizing, scanning, filing, and reviewing patient records to ensure accuracy and maintain confidentiality. Additionally, this role includes assisting with data entry and other administrative tasks to help streamline department operations.
Essential Job Functions:
- Efficiently sort, file, and retrieve patient medical records, both paper and electronic, ensuring they are properly organized and easily accessible.
- Accurately enter and update patient information into Electronic Health Records (EHRs), ensuring data integrity.
- Review medical records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
- Scan paper records into electronic formats for secure storage and easy retrieval.
- Maintain the confidentiality of patient information and adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Must be at least eighteen [18] years of age
- Must have a basic working knowledge of medical terminology
- Must have a basic knowledge and skills in computer usage
Physical Requirements:
Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls.
