Job Overview: Reporting to the General Manager, the Marine Mechanic diagnoses, repairs, and services outboard and inboard engines and boat systems for marina customers, keeping work moving through the shop during the season and preparing boats for storage in the off-season.

Responsibilities:

· Engine Service and Repair:

o Diagnose and repair outboard, inboard, and sterndrive engines, including fuel, electrical, ignition, and cooling systems.

o Perform scheduled maintenance such as oil and filter changes, gear lube, impellers, spark plugs, and tune-ups.

o Test-run engines on the water or on a test tank to confirm repairs before returning boats to customers.

o Document all work performed, parts used, and time spent on each job.

· Boat Systems:

o Troubleshoot and repair steering, controls, trim and tilt, batteries, wiring, pumps, and other onboard systems.

o Install customer-purchased equipment such as electronics, trolling motors, and lighting.

· Seasonal Work:

o Winterize and de-winterize engines and systems, including fogging, antifreeze, and shrink wrap support as needed.

o Assist with spring commissioning and haul-out to get customer boats in and out of the water on schedule.

· Parts and Work Orders:

o Work with the service desk to open, update, and close work orders accurately.

o Identify needed parts, confirm part numbers, and flag lead times that affect job scheduling.

· Safety and Shop Upkeep:

o Keep the shop, tools, and work areas clean and organized.

o Handle fuel, oil, batteries, and other hazardous materials according to safety and environmental regulations.

· Customer Interaction:

o Explain diagnoses and repair recommendations to customers in plain terms.

o Treat customer boats with care and leave them clean after service.

Perform additional tasks and fulfill responsibilities as assigned, recognizing that this list is not exhaustive and may not encompass all the duties required for the role.

Qualifications:

· Previous experience as a marine mechanic or technician; outboard experience strongly preferred.

· Manufacturer certifications (Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Volvo Penta, or similar) are a plus.

· Own set of basic hand tools.

· Ability to read wiring diagrams and service manuals and use diagnostic software.

· Valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate boats, trailers, and yard equipment.

· Availability for weekend and holiday shifts is essential during the boating season, when customer activity is at its peak.

Physical Requirements: The Marine Mechanic position involves a range of physical activities essential to daily operations. Applicants should be able to:

· Lift and Carry: Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, including lower units, batteries, and parts.

· Mobility: Stand, bend, kneel, and work in tight engine compartments and bilges for extended periods.

· Manual Dexterity: Use hand and power tools for precise repair work.

· Visual Acuity: Read gauges, meters, wiring diagrams, and small part markings.

· Hearing: Detect changes in engine sound that point to problems and communicate with staff and customers.

· Working Outside: Perform tasks outdoors and on docks, exposed to various weather conditions, including sun, wind, rain, and temperature fluctuations.

Pay: $40.00 - $65.00 per hour
