QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree. Arizona Teacher Certification.  Must be highly qualified to teach the assigned grade and/or content. Preferred SEI endorsement. Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card. 

 

REPORTS TO:

Principal/Coordinator, Federal Programs

 

JOB GOAL: 

Provides academic instruction to identified English Language Learner (ELL) students as aligned to Arizona state standards.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs all programmatic responsibilities for the ELL program as outlined in the district’s ELL scope and sequence and in relevant state statutes and administrative code.
  2. Provides support for identified ELL students, motivating students to maximize their learning potential.
  3. Provides support for classroom teachers of identified ELL students that emphasizes increasing the academic achievement of ELL students in the district.
  4. Reinforces the consistent use of proven, research-based strategies for effective differentiation and instruction of ELL students.
  5. Supports the development of individualized learning compacts to meet the unique needs of each identified ELL student; ELL individualized learning compacts include input from teachers, parents, and students.
  6. Provides professional development opportunities for instructional staff on effective differentiation strategies and instruction of ELL students.
  7. Maintains appropriate ELL student records and documentation of program activities.
  8. Evaluates referred students to determine eligibility for the ELL program.
  9. Prepares and submits all reports and documentation as directed.
  10. Engages with grade-level or subject area colleagues in giving and receiving feedback on instruction, examining student work, analyzing evidence of instructional effectiveness, and sharing responsibility for student learning. 
  11. Seeks opportunities to share practices and learning with colleagues and to learn from them. 
  12. Maintains relationships with colleagues that are characterized by mutual support, respect, and cooperation.
  13. Involves families in setting goals and expectations for individual student learning and development.   
  14. Communicates expectations for individual students to families, and works with them to develop and monitor strategies at home to support students in achieving those goals.
  15. Communicates with families regarding individual student learning and progress.
  16. Responds fully to families’ concerns about students, and follows up by providing information about progress or changes. 
  17. Maintains relationships with families that are characterized by mutual support.
  18. Seeks opportunities and accepts leadership roles within the school.
  19. Actively supports the school’s shared vision and common goals. 
  20. Contributes to school improvement efforts.
  21. Seeks out and participates in ongoing professional learning opportunities within and outside the school that generally address needs identified through examination of evidence of instructional effectiveness.
  22. Directs student teachers, instructional associates, volunteers, and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  23. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

  1. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the Internet, District software, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and other appropriate software).
  2. Knowledge of appropriate business machines and telephones.
  3. Monitor special system(s), not limited to, including security and fire alarm systems.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Ten-month, full time, employee pay and benefits in accordance with Board policy.
  2. FLSA: Exempt
