Role Description The School Facilities & Construction Project Lead — San Diego Region is a full-time, on-site role based in San Diego County, CA, supporting school districts with facilities planning and construction program implementation. In this role, the individual coordinates and oversees facility and construction projects, including bond-funded capital programs, from planning through closeout. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with district leaders, construction managers, and architectural teams; monitoring project schedules, budgets, and compliance; and preparing clear reports and presentations for district boards and stakeholders. The Project Lead assists with facility needs assessments, supports updates to Facility Master Plans, and helps improve related operational systems and processes. The role also involves regular site visits, stakeholder meetings, and problem-solving to keep projects aligned with educational goals, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in school facilities planning, construction project management, or capital program oversight, preferably within K–12 public education.
  • Knowledge of California school facilities regulations, bond programs, and DSA processes, including permitting, inspections, and project closeout.
  • Strong skills in budget tracking, schedule management, and vendor coordination, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with district leadership, site administrators, architects, construction managers, and community stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using project management software and basic productivity tools (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software) to track and report progress.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports, board materials, and stakeholder updates.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and a focus on practical, results-driven solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, public administration, business, or a related field; relevant professional certifications are a plus.
