Job Title: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Job Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides basic patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. This role ensures the safety and well-being of students with special healthcare needs.

- Proficiency in using Safe Lift Equipment and willingness to learn and operate new equipment safely
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist and provide care for students with special healthcare needs
- Supervise students to ensure safety at all times
- Contribute to and implement individualized plans of care
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in school or healthcare settings
- Document according to school health policies and procedures (e.g., UHC, OHA, screenings, parent/guardian notifications)
- Administer first aid as appropriate
- Administer medications as prescribed, following the student’s 504P and IEP
- Obtain, record, and monitor vital signs, recognizing abnormal ranges
- Assist the nurse or students in providing specialized treatments
- Maintain inventory of student care and first aid supplies
- Provide COVID-19 support, including supervising symptomatic students and staff, identifying close contacts, and managing communication.
- Support infection control strategies, such as health screenings and cleaning/disinfecting.
- Communicate proactively with parents, students, and other agencies to promote needed documents and treatments.
- Monitor students referred for illness to ensure their safety and welfare
- Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, injury-related accidents) to maintain student safety
- Respond to emergencies, determining and implementing appropriate actions to maintain student health and safety
- Maintain confidentiality of all students
- Perform duties accurately and promptly as assigned
- Perform procedures accurately and promptly as directed by the facility and/or licensed designee within the scope of practice
- Observe appropriate infection control procedures, including universal precautions
- Notify the supervising nurse of any abnormal findings or conditions
- Adhere to the standards and procedures of School Health Partners and all facilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Functional Abilities:
Communicate verbally, electronically, and in writing to the extent the position requires.
Physically perform the duties required by the position.
Physical Demands:
Able to stoop and kneel
Able to observe small text (e.g., read insulin syringe and observe medication for administration)
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Must be able to exchange accurate information with students, staff, and families regarding student-related information
Work Environment:
The work setting involves school facilities or other school related settings, requiring constant supervision of students with special healthcare needs.
Interaction with children and potential exposure to illnesses is expected.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Preferred: 2 years of experience in a hospital, school, or clinic environment
License/Certification/Registration:
- DC Certified Nursing Assistant Certification required
- Current CPR Certification required
- Current First Aid Training required
- Approved DC Medication Administration Certification required
