Special Education Teacher

Position Overview: The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, individualized instruction to students diagnosed with autism in a public day school setting. The teacher will create a structured, supportive, and engaging learning environment that promotes academic, social-emotional, and functional skill development. This role requires a strong commitment to teaching and learning, collaboration, and consistent, reliable professional practice. Key Responsibilities: * Instruction & Student Support * Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with student needs and state standards * Deliver differentiated instruction using evidence-based practices appropriate for students with autism (e.g., structured teaching, visual supports, task analysis) * Foster communication, social skills, independence, and behavioral regulation in students * Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction accordingly * Create a safe, predictable, and inclusive classroom environment * Collaboration & Teamwork * Work collaboratively with related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists, counselors), paraprofessionals, and other staff * Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and needs * Participate actively in team meetings, IEP meetings, and professional learning communities * Contribute to a positive and supportive school culture Classroom Management & Organization: * Maintain structured routines and clear expectations for students * Supervise and guide paraprofessional staff in implementing instructional and behavioral strategies * Manage time effectively to balance instructional planning, data collection, and deadlines * Ensure compliance with all districts, state, and federal regulations Professional Responsibilities: * Demonstrate reliability and dependability in attendance, preparation, and follow-through * Engage in ongoing professional development related to special education and autism * Reflect on teaching practices and continuously seek improvement Qualifications: * Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or a related field (required); advanced degree preferred * Valid state certification in Special Education (or eligibility for certification); MA DESE Licensure Preferred. * Experience working with students with autism or similar developmental disabilities preferred * Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based instructional and behavioral strategies * Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Core Competencies: * Commitment to student-centered teaching and learning * Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams * Strong time management and organizational skills * Consistent professionalism, reliability, and accountability * Flexibility, patience, and problem-solving ability
