Groundskeeping Assistant
Physical Plant Department
FUNCTION: Under direction of Physical Plant Director, responsible for overall maintenance of SAR’s landscaping, irrigation systems and general upkeep of grounds, walkways and gathering spaces of the campus. The campus includes the main campus and two off campus residences. In addition, assists the Physical Plant team with buildings, equipment and vehicle maintenance. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, non-exempt.
Core Responsibilities
· Maintain the appearance and functionality of School grounds including fencing, walkways, plant and flower beds, retaining walls and gathering spaces to ensure safe and attractive environment. Assist Physical Plant team as directed in general building and maintenance efforts.
Groundskeeping Duties
· Performs general maintenance and repair of all walkways, stairways and gathering spaces to ensure safety and are free of debris, snow, ice and other hazards.
· Maintains garden areas, planting beds and common area grounds which may include planting, trimming, fertilizing, watering, transplanting, and other seasonal maintenance as necessary.
· Removes trash from bins and enclosures and monitor cleanliness of campus grounds.
· Maintains irrigation systems regarding sprinkler heads, timers, valves and motorized parts for all systems.
· Assists with the overall maintenance of the SAR campus.
General Maintenance Duties
· Maintains gates and fences on all properties.
· Assists in the maintenance, repair, installation, and removal of the electrical, gas, phone, computer cabling, and plumbing systems as directed.
· Assists in the upkeep and maintenance of the interior of campus buildings as directed including, but not limited to interior floor upkeep, furniture moving, and repairs to door and cabinetry hardware.
· Ensures safe operation of physical plant tools, vehicles, and equipment at all times.
SUPERVISION: This position reports to the Physical Plant Director.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED; valid New Mexico driver’s license, with no reportable violations; literacy in English writing and reading; two to four years’ experience in landscape and general building maintenance, ability to identify and operate variety of tools, machinery and equipment – drills, saws, snow and leaf blowers, power washers, plumbing snakes, etc.; must be able and willing to work in all weather conditions and all locations of buildings; must be able to take direction, and work with diverse groups of people; willing to work additional hours during summer season and special events as needed.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with basic plumbing and routine plumbing repairs; certifications in irrigation systems; general carpentry and basic masonry skills helpful; able to utilize computer station and mobile device with apps related to job responsibilities, such as, e-mail, and Monday.com for scheduling.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Lifting (40 lbs.)
- Able to work in different weather conditions.
- Ascend and descend ladders up to 6 feet in height.
· Good hand-eye coordination.
· Comfortable working indoors and outdoors as needed.
· Able to crouch, kneel and flex to enable a variety of physical motions.
Pay: $26.00 - $28.00 per hour
