Position Overview: The School District of Washington is seeking a paraprofessional responsible for providing direct support to students. This includes assisting students with instruction, providing services related to instruction, and facilitating a variety of instructional activities such as testing. This particular position works with students taking technical and career courses including automotive, welding, construction, graphic design, business, teaching, health occupations, engineering, technology, machine tool, etc.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Student supervision and implementation of instructional support services.
- Assist teachers with implementation of instruction.
- Collaborate with staff regarding student instruction, progress, data collection, and individual student planning.
- Build and maintain secure relationships with students as well as maintaining professional relationships with colleagues, parents, and patrons.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with timelines including individual student records, classroom records, content area reports, and building records as needed or assigned.
- Actively engage as a member of a team including but not limited to student teams, content area teams, focus groups, building teams, etc.
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination, harassment, as directed by Board Policy and otherwise required by law.
- Regular and reliable attendance is necessary in the business office in order to perform the functions of this position.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required for District operations.
Other Related Responsibilities:
- Additional duties necessary to supervise students, monitor events, or assist in an emergency situation.
- Attend building events such as open houses, curriculum nights, and events designed to bring the public into the District.
- Occasional or sporadic duties such as participating on an interview committee, working an event, or covering the duty of a colleague.
- Participate in professional development activities and/or work outside of the typical school work day and/or school calendar.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Paraprofessionals work the District academic calendar associated with the typical school day. This position is eligible for applicable health and ancillary insurance, annual paid leave award, paid holidays falling during the student calendar, and defined benefit pension. Typically, a person in this position can anticipate 35 hours per week paid work time. It should be noted that this employee group does not work in the event of school closures such as those associated with inclement weather. The starting rate established by the Board of Education is $16.12 per hour, depending on experience.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Accounting in accordance with the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
