Position Overview: The School District of Washington is seeking football coaches for its newly established Middle School Program. The football coaches will instruct/coach middle school students. Ideal candidates demonstrate the ability to form safe relationships with students, effective oral and written communication skills, high level organizational skills, and the ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups, including the High School football coaches. This position has a key role in fostering a positive, productive, and safe environment for students participating in SDOW’s athletic program.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Responsible for forming teams and providing them with high-level coaching at practices and games.
- Acts as a representative of the school and community in a professional manner.
- Responsibility for setting up, organizing and leading practice, and cleaning up when practice concludes.
- Consistent and regular communication with students, parents, High School Football staff, and the Activities Director.
- Promote a team-oriented environment including goal setting, accountability, and clear expectations.
- Promote sportsmanship, foster character development, and monitor the progress of individual team members.
- Supervise students at practice, during competition, etc. Ensure implementation of District safety protocols as it relates to student participation in athletics.
- Regular and reliable attendance is necessary in order to perform the functions of this position.
- Perform associated roles as required for building operations and to respond in the event of an emergency.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required for District operations, such as required training, reporting, program management.
Other Related Responsibilities:
- Maintains appropriate student records and timelines.
- Maintain equipment and resources.
- Attend meetings as necessary for general operations related to this program.
- Maintains confidential nature of all school related material.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: The Middle School Football Coaches schedule runs concurrently with our High School program (August - October). There are occasional out-of-season activities typically in the summer ahead of the start of the season. The Head Coach position is a stipend position paid at 7% of the posted teacher salary schedule, column BS 16. Entry level into the column is dependent on experience with a limit of step 11. The Assistant Coaches position is also a stipend paid at 6% of the posted teacher salary schedule, column BS 16. Entry level is the same as described above.
EVALUATION: Performance of these positions are under the direction of the Activities Director.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
