Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the repair and proper operation of all mechanical systems in the facility, including regular maintenance and repair. Oversees the campus physical plant facilities and provides team leadership for the custodian/engineer staff.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversees the campus physical plant facilities and provides team leadership for the custodian/engineer staff.
a. Maintains thermostatic controls and related equipment pertaining to heating, ventilation, and cooling systems.
b. Performs building checks or ensures a qualified replacement has been assigned.
c. Reports problems/concerns regarding the building security alarm system, fire alarm system, or the fire extinguisher program.
d. Performs repairs to all mechanical and operational systems, including the heating and plumbing systems.
e. Performs repairs to furniture, lockers, lawn equipment and other equipment as requested by Administration.
f. Coordinates safe use of the building by the public for all school functions.
g. Reads and understands operational manuals and building plan sheets (mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural).
h. Maintains operation logs as directed by Administration.
2. Cleans and maintains all assigned areas (all assigned areas are listed on the current custodial area diagram of the school) per custodial standards.
a. Assists with grounds cleaning and trash pickup.
b. Performs complete summer and deep cleaning as assigned.
c. Performs minor repairs as necessary and documents repairs using the School Dude maintenance management system.
d. Assists in the maintenance of lawns, landscaping, concrete and blacktop surfaces and playgrounds, including pedestrian walkways snow and ice removal.
e. Assists with the setting up and tearing down of events both inside and outside the school as directed.
f. Takes initiative to work as a team as to complete the cleaning of the entire facility.
g. Assists students, staff, and co-workers as necessary using excellent verbal and written communication skills.
3. Maintains a safe working environment.
a. Complies with District, State, and Federal (OSHA) safety standards to maintain a safe work environment.
b. Inspects and maintains school for safety, promptly reporting any concerns that cannot be immediately corrected.
c. Maintains the exterior of the building and grounds and provides safe access to the facility at all times.
d. Respond to emergency situations as directed by an Administrator.
e. Utilizes personal protective equipment as necessary.
f. Monitors and controls use of energy and corrects or reports situations that expend energy.
g. Assists with school security measures and procedures under the direction of Administration.
h. Locks and secures facilities by setting security systems as directed.
i. Serves as an integral part of the building crisis team.
4. Additional duties as assigned by Principals or Administration.
a. Works a revised schedule and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary.
b. Attends mandatory training and professional learning activities applicable to position.

2. Capable on a frequent basis of: squatting, reaching full range (up to 180 degrees), pushing from between floor and waist height (up to 75 pounds), and pulling from between floor and waist height (up to 50 pounds).
3. Capable on an occasional basis of: climbing, lifting from floor to waist (up to 100 pounds), lifting from shoulder to overhead (up to 35 pounds).

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Applicant must have or will attain a Special Engineer’s License from the State of Minnesota within six (6) months of hire date.
- Applicant must pass school district’s Engineer Test
- Maintains a Certified Pool Operation (CPO) license or willing to train for CPO. Obtains initial CPO license within 6 months of hire date (applicable only at the high school).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working as an engineer or custodian.
- Experience working in commercial building trades.
