TITLE: High School Success Coach

FLSA: Non-Exempt

TERMS: This is a grant-funded position for one year, with the possibility of additional years if grant is extended. Work year is comprised of 190 days per academic year as established annually by the Board.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

A High School Success Coach is someone who is engaged in high school graduation assistance activities, including but not limited to working with students, school staff, parents, guardians and community members. The High School Success Coach will aid all high school students, individually and in groups, regarding high school graduation and completion, including but not limited to: analyzing data to identify students or subgroups with potential of not graduating on time; planning, implementing, and tracking individual high school graduation plans; identifying and resolving barriers to graduation; and facilitating career choices and planning.

Essential Functions

The High School Success Coach shall work to improve graduation rates for all population subgroups within the school.

Develops instructional plans for recovering lost credits for at-risk students.

Establishes and maintains purposeful relationships with students and parents.

Assists students in developing appropriate goals.

Assists students in developing and implementing strategies for removing barriers to graduation.

Monitors targeted students' progress. Serve as coordinator/instructor of the after-school tutoring/EOC Academy.

Work with counselors and teachers to provide instructional intervention using on-line course recovery software and other strategies that can prevent initial failures.

Communicate effectively within the educational community for the support of the student.

Coordinates and manages special programs or projects as assigned.

Tracks the progress of individuals and subpopulations of students as they progress toward graduation.

Monitors Progress Of Students Scoring Significantly Below Proficiency Levels. Conducts An Analysis That Focuses On Data For Individual Students And Subgroups Such As

  • Local Standardized Tests: Benchmark Assessment data for progress monitoring
  • State Standardized Tests: End of Grade and End of Course Assessments
  • National Standardized Tests: Pre-ACT, Pre-SAT, SAT, ACT
  • Local Records: attendance records, behavior records, records of teacher conferences, records of parent conferences, grade retention records, records of credits earned (transcripts).

Develops and implements individual intervention strategies to increase the likelihood that these students will stay in school and graduate.

Works with students to develop a graduation and achievement plan to include the best

program to meet academic and post-secondary goals.

Conducts and analyzes on-going formative and summative evaluation data of program effectiveness.

Participates on committees, tasks forces, boards, student meetings, etc. as appropriate

Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports, including various student and program records, student progress reports, memos, and/or correspondences.

Perform other duties as may be assigned by the school principal.

Maintain staff and student confidentiality at all times.

Present a positive image of Newberry County School District through professional and ethical conduct.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education And Experience

Associate's or Bachelor's degree with thorough knowledge of South Carolina graduation requirements, College and Career Readiness requirements and the Profile of the High School graduate; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Qualifications may vary from the above requirements to such a degree as the Superintendent determines necessary and appropriate to ensure properly qualified personnel in the position.

Knowledge

Thorough knowledge of school District policies and procedures pertinent to the duties of the job. Thorough knowledge of PowerSchool and running reports/ analyzing reports to aid in their work with students. Knowledge of basic clerical functions and modern office procedures and equipment.

Skills/Effort

Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required. Ability to keep abreast of current policies and procedures. Ability to make decisions in non-routine situations requiring good judgment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents and other individuals/groups with interest in the school.

Working Conditions

Physical demands are restricted to general school activities requiring walking, standing, and the ability to complete light physical tasks. Requires the movement/lifting of items weighing up to fifty pounds. Requires the ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and meeting tight deadlines. Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment. Local travel required.

Responsibility

No direct budgetary or supervisory responsibilities.
