Description
The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Regular Education Supervisory Teacher Assistant at Logan High School. Projected start date: As soon as possible.
Required abilities:
- Ability to learn and utilize basic methods or procedures to be followed in various areas of the school.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of and enthusiasm for students.
- Ability to use correct and appropriate language with students.
- Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with students and staff.
- Ability to use various techniques to control and motivate students.
- Be willing to participate in workshops, etc., that benefit the specific subject or job assignment.
- Ability to learn and utilize special procedures unique to the assignment, such as crisis intervention techniques, basic first aid and CPR.
Position responsibilities:
- Assist with the supervision and discipline of students throughout the school, including any of the following: front entry, hallways, commons, study halls, in-school suspension (ISS) room, the educational classroom, and the Library Media Center (LMC).
- Enforce school and classroom rules and procedures to ensure the safe, orderly, and efficient functioning of the school.
- Work with students (individually and in groups) in various settings (Ranger Resource, study halls, commons, ISS, classrooms, and LMC).
- Provide academic support for students under the direction of a lead teacher.
- Help students use computers efficiently.
- Use clear, effective, and timely communication with students, teaching staff, and administration.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Keep current and accurate records, including attendance and school visitor records.
- Utilize time and resources appropriately and productively and complete work assignments in an efficient manner.
- Perform a variety of regular clerical duties such as filing, word processing, copying, and preparing instructional materials for teachers when required.
- Operate a variety of instructional media, office machines, and program equipment, including software programs.
- Shelve books in LMC, process LMC materials, help with inventory control, troubleshoot computer problems, and organize LMC materials.
- Complete additional tasks as requested by administrators.

Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of education beyond high school or 48 post high school credits preferred.
- Some paid or volunteer experience working with children in an educational or child care setting, or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the knowledge and abilities for job assignment.
- Word processing skills and basic computer knowledge required and bookkeeping abilities helpful.
