POSITION SUMMARY: The Evening Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position performs routine cleaning, sanitation, minor maintenance tasks, and building security duties during evening hours to ensure district facilities are ready for daily operations.

The District Administration Center is located in Sterling, CO (Logan County) in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 13,900, in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Building Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, cafeterias, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize assigned spaces.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.
- Refill restroom supplies, soap dispensers, and paper products.
- Clean windows, glass surfaces, and entryways as assigned.
- Perform floor care including stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet cleaning as needed.
- Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and equipment issues promptly.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks within the scope of the position.
- Assist with furniture moving, room setup, and event preparation.
- Monitor and maintain custodial equipment and supplies.
- Secure buildings by locking doors, turning off lights, and conducting end-of-shift building checks.
- Follow district safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Maintain compliance with district policies and OSHA standards.
- Assist with snow removal, ice mitigation, and other seasonal facility needs when assigned.
- Maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and community members.
- Attend required district training and meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to perform physical labor and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license or ability to obtain transportation to assigned work location.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
- Previous custodial, maintenance, or janitorial experience.
- Knowledge of cleaning equipment, floor care, and custodial best practices.
- Experience working in a school setting.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and climbing.
- Ability to work around cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
