What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2026-27 Special Education Facilitator position at School Board Office?
The Special Education Facilitator will assist the Supervisor of Special Education by facilitating the special education process from child study through IEP development. More specifically, this individual will review child study paperwork; track eligibility components; ensure minutes are accurately entered into VaIEP; follow-up with staff as needed; track IEP and/or 504 development following eligibility determination; review documents for accuracy and state requirements. Additionally, this individual will ensure that paperwork is copied; filed and distributed appropriately and within the timelines established by state policy and local practice. Additional responsibilities may be added as deemed appropriate by the Special Education Director.
It is suggested that the successful candidate will have:
- a minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience with at least 3 of those years in special education;
- thorough knowledge of instructional methods, materials, practices, procedures, laws and programs that support the educational needs of students with disabilities;
- well-versed in the requirements of eligibility procedures and practices;
- thorough understanding of Individualized Education Plan development;
- knowledge of federal and state regulations related to special education;
- leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working with professional colleagues and the public;
- excellent oral and written communication skills.
