About Us
Scholar and a Dream is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of minority students through scholarship, career development, and mentorship. Our flagship initiative, Project Dream, is a comprehensive college and career development program for BIPOC NYC public high school students entering the 11th grade. We bridge educational and career achievement gaps by giving students exposure to knowledge, skills, and mentorship that support post-secondary success.
The Role
The Student Success & Mentorship Coordinator leads Project Dream's mentorship program and supports the successful execution of monthly workshops and student engagement activities. You'll be the primary point of contact for mentors and mentees — building meaningful mentorship relationships while providing the operational support that keeps our programming running smoothly.
What You'll Do
- Recruit, onboard, and retain mentors who align with our mission.
- Match mentors and mentees based on career interests, personal development goals, and student needs.
- Organize and lead mentorship orientation sessions and ongoing mentor training.
- Monitor mentorship relationships to ensure they stay productive and beneficial.
- Equip mentors with the resources, guidance, and support they need to make an impact.
- Troubleshoot and resolve challenges in mentor-mentee relationships.
- Partner with Program Coordinators to integrate mentorship into the broader program calendar.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree (or in progress) in Education, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field, preferred.
- Experience in youth development, mentoring, education, or program coordination.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfort managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- A genuine passion for educational equity and supporting BIPOC students.
Time Commitment
Approximately 5 hours/week, with flexibility based on program needs. Availability for 3-4 Project Dream workshops over 8 months.
