Position Overview
The Paramedic assists the Emergency Medical Services Coordinator in delivering emergency medical assistance and patient care support to local ambulance and rescue squads.
This position requires independent judgment, initiative, and the ability to supervise training and patient-care activities. Additional related duties will be performed as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide emergency medical assistance and patient care.
- Support local ambulance and rescue squads that deliver emergency services.
- Assist the Emergency Medical Services Coordinator with departmental duties and operations.
- Exercise independent judgment and initiative in emergency situations.
- Supervise training and patient-care activities.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
- Current New York State Paramedic certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification, or an equivalent certification.
- Current Basic Life Support CPR certification.
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid, appropriate-level New York State driver's license at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
- Ability to obtain Emergency Vehicle Operator's Certification within one year of appointment.
Civil Service Appointment
This is a provisional appointment. Permanent appointment is contingent upon successfully completing the applicable Civil Service examination and becoming reachable on the resulting eligible list.
