Schmitz Ready Mix is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Concrete Testing Technician to join our Quality Control team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring our concrete products consistently meet customer specifications, industry standards, and performance expectations.
This position combines fieldwork, laboratory testing, technology-based documentation, and collaboration with operations personnel to support quality throughout the production process.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform fresh and hardened concrete testing in accordance with ASTM, ACI, WisDOT, and company procedures.
- Cast, cure, transport, and test concrete cylinders and other quality control samples.
- Collect, document, and maintain accurate test data and records.
- Enter test results and production information into digital systems and electronic forms in a timely and accurate manner.
- Monitor quality trends and communicate observations to Quality Control and Operations personnel.
- Assist with investigations and troubleshooting when test results fall outside established parameters.
- Maintain testing equipment, laboratory spaces, and vehicles in a clean and organized manner.
- Work safely and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with plant personnel, dispatch, drivers, and management to support quality initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications:
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
- HTCP Portland Cement Concrete Technician I (PCCTEC I)
- HTCP Aggregate Technician I (AGGTEC I)
- Or equivalent certifications, as approved by the company.
- Ability to operate a smartphone, tablet, and laptop computer to complete data entry, access work applications, communicate information, and maintain required records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of concrete quality control processes, aggregate production, ready-mix concrete operations, or construction materials testing.
- Experience working in manufacturing, production, laboratory, construction, industrial, or other technical environments.
- Experience using spreadsheets, tablets, mobile applications, and electronic forms for data collection and documentation.
- Bilingual communication skills, particularly English and Spanish, are considered an asset.

Previous concrete testing or quality control experience is beneficial but not required. We are willing to train the right individual.

Working Conditions
- This position involves working in both laboratory and field environments and requires regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, motor vehicles, heavy construction equipment, concrete production operations, wet concrete, cementitious materials, and chemicals that may be hazardous, toxic, caustic, or capable of causing skin irritation or burns, as well as varying outdoor weather conditions.
- Work is frequently performed on uneven surfaces and active construction, plant, or industrial sites.
- Noise levels are generally moderate but may periodically be high. Personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, must be worn as required and instructed.
- The employee must possess strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, respond to unexpected situations, and transition between fieldwork, laboratory work, and administrative tasks while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, and professional composure.
- Local travel is required as directed using a company vehicle.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English is preferred to safely perform job duties, complete required documentation, and collaborate with team members, customers, and regulatory agencies.
- Wet concrete and cementitious materials can cause skin and eye irritation or chemical burns if proper PPE is not used. Employees are required to use all prescribed protective equipment and safe work practices when handling these materials.
- The employee must follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements at all times.
