Schaefer Plastics is seeking an organized and proactive Yard Lead to oversee our outdoor yard and staging areas. This hands-on role is responsible for managing inventory, maintaining a clean and orderly yard, and ensuring materials are properly staged for production and shipping. The Yard Lead plays a crucial role in ensuring operations run smoothly by coordinating material flow, supporting production needs, and fostering a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily yard operations to ensure materials are stored safely and efficiently.
Manage incoming and outgoing materials, verifying counts, condition, and correct placement.
Organize the staging area to ensure easy and timely access to materials for production.
Coordinate with production, warehouse, and logistics teams to prioritize material needs.
Keep the yard clean, organized, and free of hazards; ensure walkways, driveways, and storage areas are accessible.
Lead a small team (if applicable) of yard or forklift personnel, providing direction and guidance.
Perform regular inventory counts and assist in reconciling discrepancies.
Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment as needed.
Ensure all yard activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
Identify opportunities to improve yard organization, material flow, and space utilization.
Assist with loading/unloading trucks and arranging materials for shipment when needed.
Communicate effectively with drivers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure smooth yard operations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
2 years of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or yard operations role; leadership experience preferred.
Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Basic computer skills for inventory tracking (familiarity with ERP systems a plus).
Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Work Environment & Schedule:
Outdoor yard environment with exposure to weather.
May involve lifting up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods.
Full-time schedule; may require occasional overtime or weekend work based on production needs.
