Operations Engineer – Ground Systems
Status: Full Time, Exempt
Location: Moriarty, NM
Reports to: Chief of Mission Operations

Our lighter-than-air high-altitude platform systems (LTA HAPS) are capable of maintaining position over an operational area in the stratosphere (altitudes of 18 – 21km). They can carry multiple telecommunications, imaging and remote sensing payloads, providing unique functionality, cost, environmental and societal advantages.
Our HAPS be deployed in a matter of days and at a fraction of the cost of traditional infrastructure solutions. This makes them an ideal solution for providing telecommunications connectivity, emergency solutions in the event of natural or other disasters, environmental and infrastructure monitoring, Earth observation and a range of defense applications.

About the Position:
Sceye is seeking a full-time Operations Engineer – Ground Systems to join our Mission Operations Team. This role is pivotal in developing, maintaining, and operating mission-critical ground systems—both hardware and software—that support Sceye’s lighter-than-air High Altitude Platform System (HAPS). You’ll collaborate closely with Mission Operations, Software, and Engineering teams to design, build, test, and operate the next generation of Sceye’s ground systems. In addition to technical development, you’ll support pre-flight planning, console operations during missions, and post-flight data analysis.
This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys hands-on system work, and wants to directly influence the performance, safety, and reliability of next-generation aerospace systems.
What You’ll Do:
Test Design & Execution
- Automate test procedures, capture results, and document anomalies
- Develop intuitive interfaces that help operators identify issues and monitor key telemeters
Scripting & Development
- Author scripts or test applications to validate functionality and performance
- Create UI components for test and simulator tools
- Submit software change requests and support validation during feature development
System Operations & Administration
- Manage and maintain test environments (hardware and software)
- Perform system administration on Linux-based platforms
- Apply networking skills to manage distributed ground systems
Radio Frequency & Software-Defined Radio (Optional but Valuable)
- Interface with RF hardware and SDRs to validate signal processing and communications
Simulation & Visualization
- Develop or use simulation and visualization tools to model system behavior
- Integrate results into system acceptance and validation workflows
Beyond-Line-of-Sight (BLOS) Systems
- Support and troubleshoot systems operating BLOS, addressing data latency and accuracy challenges
What We’re Looking For:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, software, computer engineering, or a physical science (emphasis on lab/research experience)
- 5 years of professional experience in ground control system (GCS) design and/or testing
- Experience testing aerospace systems
- Strong Linux skills and basic system administration knowledge
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python or Ruby preferred)
- Ability to write, audit, and maintain test scripts, validation code, and UIs for internal tools
- Understanding of human-factor design principles for UI/UX
- Experience with data analysis and aggregation of large datasets
- Ability to interpret requirements and demonstrate verification/validation methods
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with software-defined radios (SDR) or RF hardware
- Familiarity with simulation modeling and visualization tools
- Experience with Beyond-Line-of-Sight (BLOS) communications and related interfaces
