Summary
Scenic Bluffs Community Health Center is currently hiring for a full-time Communications Specialist. This position will work under the direction of the Development and Communications Manager, and will support the development and implementation of communications strategies that advance the mission, programs, services, and community presence of the Health Center.
This position creates and coordinates print and digital communications, manages website and social media content, supports marketing and public relations initiatives, and assists with community outreach, events, and engagement activities. The Communications Specialist works collaboratively across departments to ensure communications are accurate, timely, engaging, and consistent with the organization’s brand, mission, vision, and values.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of organizational communication, marketing, and outreach initiatives.
- Create, edit, design, and coordinate print and digital communications, including newsletters, flyers, brochures, advertisements, presentations, email communications, signage, and other promotional materials.
- Develop and manage engaging content for organizational social media platforms, including written, graphic, photo, and video content, and monitor engagement and performance.
- Maintain and update website content to ensure information is accurate, timely, accessible, and consistent with organizational messaging and brand standards.
- Design graphics and promotional materials using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design platforms.
- Develop content that communicates the organization's impact through patient and staff features, program highlights, community stories, photography, and other storytelling opportunities.
- Support public relations activities by drafting press releases, media announcements, talking points, and other external communications.
- Support the planning, promotion, and coordination of organizational events, community outreach activities, health fairs, and other engagement opportunities; represent the organization at events as assigned.
- Collaborate with departments and program leaders to identify communication needs and effectively promote programs, services, initiatives, and accomplishments.
- Help maintain consistent organizational branding, visual identity, messaging, and communication standards across departments and locations.
- Monitor website, social media, email, and other communication metrics and use available data to evaluate effectiveness and identify opportunities to strengthen engagement.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, patients, staff, media contacts, vendors, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
- Stay informed of emerging communication trends, tools, technologies, and social media practices relevant to organizational outreach and engagement.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect patient and organizational information in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization in all interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including strong writing, editing, and proofreading abilities.
- Working knowledge of communications, marketing, public relations, branding, and audience engagement principles.
- Ability to develop clear, accurate, and engaging content for diverse audiences across print, digital, web, social media, and other communication channels.
- Experience creating and managing social media content and familiarity with current social media platforms and practices.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar graphic design tools and the ability to create professional visual communications.
- Familiarity with website content management systems and digital communication tools.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to interpret basic communication and engagement metrics and use data to improve communication efforts.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively across departments.
- Strong attention to detail, professionalism, creativity, and discretion when working with confidential or sensitive information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, community partners, vendors, and the public.
The individual must maintain the confidentiality of patient and organizational information and demonstrate conduct consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Scenic Bluffs Community Health Centers.
Education and/or Experience
An associate degree or higher in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or a related field is required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered. Previous professional, internship, volunteer, or related experience in communications, marketing, public relations, social media, graphic design, digital content, or community outreach is preferred. Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, community-based, or mission-driven organizations is helpful but not required.
Computer Skills
The individual must be proficient with Microsoft 365 applications and comfortable using social media platforms, graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, website content management systems, and other digital communication tools. The individual must demonstrate the ability to learn and effectively use new communication technologies and platforms.
