Qualifications
- Paraprofessional License from Illinois State Board of Education with Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent) preferred.
- Other unrelated Professional Educator License permitted with adequate college coursework in Early Childhood Education and experience working with preschool children in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of child welfare principles and best practices in early childhood education.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with children, families, and colleagues.
- Experience working with young children in an educational setting is essential.
- Ability to manage a classroom effectively while promoting positive behavior among students.
- Familiarity with literacy education techniques is highly desirable.
- Physical education experience is a plus but not required.
Summary
As a Preschool Paraprofessional and/or Assistant Teacher at SCC Early Childhood Centers, you will play a vital role in nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning. This position is essential in creating a supportive environment that encourages children's growth and development while contributing to our mission of continuous quality improvement.
Responsibilities
- Work full-time, year-round in a preschool classroom. Shift requirements are 8:00a-5:00p, Monday through Friday (start/end time may vary up to 30 minutes earlier and/or 30 minutes later depending upon staffing needs, in order to maintain compliance with DCFS and specific program requirements)
- Periodic Mandatory professional development occurs both during traditional work hours and occasionally outside of work hours. Participation in all mandatory professional development activities is necessary and expected of all early childhood staff.
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that promote children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
- Create a safe and nurturing classroom environment that encourages exploration and learning.
- Assess children's progress through observation and documentation to tailor educational approaches.
- Collaborate with families to support children's learning and development at home.
- Implement behavior management strategies to foster positive interactions among children.
- Participate in continuous professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices.
- Contribute to program improvement initiatives as part of the teaching team.
