We design and manufacture our scanners, electronics, and proprietary Analyst™ software in-house, allowing our engineering team to work directly with each product throughout design, prototyping, testing, and production.
Position Summary
ScanTech is seeking a full-time Mechanical/Design Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and improvement of automated NDT scanning systems and related components.
This is a hands-on position that works closely with our machining, manufacturing, software, sales, marketing, and field support teams. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking a product from an initial concept and CAD design through prototyping, testing, and production.
This is an on-site position based in Longview, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Create and revise mechanical designs, assemblies, and production drawings using Autodesk Inventor
- Develop new products and improve existing scanner systems, fixtures, housings, mechanisms, and accessories
- Build and test prototypes, document results, and make practical design improvements
- Work directly with machining and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and serviceable
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and support root-cause analysis and corrective actions
- Prepare bills of materials, specifications, technical documentation, and design records
- Participate in design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout product development
- Support field testing, customer applications, and product validation when needed
- Provide accurate technical information for product launches, brochures, website content, videos, demonstrations, trade shows, and other customer-facing materials
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a closely related field, or extensive directly relevant experience
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor and mechanical drafting practices
- Ability to create clear parts, assemblies, dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing drawings
- Practical understanding of machining, materials, mechanical systems, and product development
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical team members
- Ability to work on-site in Longview, Texas
Preferred Experience
- Mid-level experience in mechanical or product design, although qualified candidates at other experience levels will be considered
- Experience with CNC machining, prototyping, robotics, motion systems, or industrial equipment
- Knowledge of electrical design, motors, controls, sensors, or cable routing
- Experience taking a product from concept through testing and production
- Experience supporting product demonstrations, technical marketing materials, trade shows, or customer education
- Familiarity with nondestructive testing, ultrasonic inspection, or industrial automation
Work Environment
This role includes a combination of engineering office work, shop-floor collaboration, prototype assembly, equipment testing, and cross-functional support.
The position may occasionally involve lifting components, working around machinery, and supporting field tests, customer demonstrations, trade shows, or marketing content development.
