What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Sales Engineer, North America position at Scanivalve Corp?
About Scanivalve
Scanivalve Corporation is a world leader in the design and manufacture of precision pressure & temperature measurement instrumentation. Based in Liberty Lake, Washington, we have built a decades-long reputation for engineering excellence and exceptional customer service. Our products are trusted worldwide by engineers and researchers across aerospace, defense, automotive, and academic markets — wherever accurate, reliable data matters.
We are engineers first. Our team is deeply technical, our customers are deeply technical, and the conversations that win business here are grounded in real application knowledge — not just relationship management. That culture runs from the shop floor to the executive team, and it defines the kind of salespeople who succeed at Scanivalve.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to own and grow our North American commercial footprint. This is a highly visible, autonomous role reporting directly to executive management. You will inherit a strong base of established customer relationships and be expected to grow them — while simultaneously identifying and pursuing new business across the region. You will sell directly to engineers, researchers, and technical buyers who expect you to know the product as well as they know their application. This role is ideal for someone equally comfortable at a whiteboard discussing sensor specifications and closing a deal.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and grow a portfolio of established North American customer accounts, serving as the primary point of contact for both commercial and technical matters.
- Proactively identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities across target industries and customer segments.
- Prepare and deliver compelling technical presentations, product demonstrations, and proposals tailored to customer applications.
- Develop and manage accurate quotes in collaboration with internal engineering and operations teams.
- Represent Scanivalve at trade shows, industry conferences, and customer sites throughout the US and Canada, with anticipated travel of approximately 10–15 weeks per year.
- Partner in producing and managing sales documentation including social media content.
- Provide product training and light technical support to customers as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, pipeline activity, and forecasts in our CRM system.
- Gather and relay market intelligence to inform product strategy and competitive positioning.
What We’re Looking For
- 3–8 years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or field sales — ideally within instrumentation, test & measurement, aerospace/defense, or a closely related field.
- Meaningful technical competence is required. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline is preferred. Candidates without a technical degree but with deep, demonstrable industry experience and application knowledge are encouraged to apply — but this is not a role where technical credibility can be faked.
- The ability to hold a substantive technical conversation with engineers and researchers, understand their measurement challenges, and connect those challenges to the right Scanivalve solution.
- A demonstrated track record of managing a sales pipeline, balancing account retention with new business development, and meeting or exceeding targets.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills — credible with engineers, procurement teams, and executives alike.
- Self-motivated and organized, with the ability to manage your own schedule and priorities with minimal oversight.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout North America (approximately 10–15 weeks per year).
- Proficiency with CRM tools and standard business software.
Compensation & Benefits
We believe in paying people well and taking care of them for the long term. This is a salaried position with a wage range of $94,000–$105,000 per year, depending on experience, plus eligibility for our company-wide annual profit-sharing bonus.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance — coverage extends to your entire family
- 401(k) with 3% company match
- Annual profit-sharing bonus distributed company-wide
- Paid time off, sick leave, and paid holidays
- Company credit card for all work-related travel expenses
