What will your role be?
Scalian is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Documentation Engineer with a strong background in industrialization and manufacturing environments to support the development of clear, accurate, and comprehensive production documentation. This role is instrumental in translating complex manufacturing and assembly processes into structured work instructions that support operational efficiency, product quality, and production readiness.
You will play a key role in updating outdated documentation and creating new work instructions for assembly operations, including harness builds and metallic and composite parts. You will also coordinate standard project activities such as requirements gathering, planning, and document control within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to collaborate across diverse, multicultural teams and engage effectively with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), operators, and engineering stakeholders.
Activities:
- Create, update, and standardize work instructions (WI) for manufacturing and assembly processes, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and usability on the shop floor
- Review and revise existing outdated documentation, identifying gaps and developing missing work instructions to support production needs
- Work closely with manufacturing engineers, technicians, and operators to gather process inputs and translate them into clear, step-by-step documentation
- Support industrialization efforts by developing documentation aligned with production readiness, process validation, and scaling activities
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to manage documentation repositories, ensuring version control, traceability, and accessibility
- Validate manufacturing documentation—such as assembly sequences, tooling requirements, and process specifications—for completeness and accuracy
- Ensure documentation aligns with quality standards and supports compliance with internal procedures and industry regulations
- Maintain comprehensive, audit-ready documentation throughout the product lifecycle and support smooth handover to production and operations teams
What skills and qualifications are we looking for?
- 3–5 years of experience in technical writing, manufacturing engineering, or industrial documentation within a production environment
- Experience developing work instructions for assembly processes (e.g., harness builds, mechanical assemblies, metallic and composite parts)
- Familiarity with manufacturing and industrialization processes, including production ramp-up and process standardization
- Strong understanding of document control practices, versioning, and configuration management in a manufacturing setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex manufacturing processes into clear instructions
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and production teams
- Proficiency with documentation and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Confluence, or similar systems)
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple documentation deliverables simultaneously
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, defense, automotive) is a plus
