Job Description:
Develop accurate electrical estimates; maintain/implement a standard bidding procedure
Responsibilities:
Lead functioning of the estimating department to review and track potential bid projects; maintain and distribute bidding schedule; education and development of junior estimators; implement and maintain computerized estimating programs and databases and customize as required to meet department needs.
Obtain bid documents, specifications, and drawings as required to bid targeted projects as approved by management.
Review project specifications and drawings for job specific details (material types, specified manufacturers, sequence of work, etc.).
Develop a detailed scope of work for each project and provide to approved contractors for review prior to bid.
Prepare technical proposals and drawings as required in support of potential design build projects.
Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks to verify existing conditions and obtain specific information as required at existing facilities.
Perform count and measure takeoffs from project drawings, specifications, and site visits using computer based estimating systems.
Prepare vendor bid packages and solicit vendor bids using Procore.
Prepare bid summaries for review and final approval of management prior to bid; extend and total takeoffs; determine labor difficulties and apply man hour estimates to takeoffs; estimate direct job expenses applicable to each project.
Review final bids with contractors and negotiate (with approval) as required prior to bid.
Track and review results of all bid projects to determine successful bidder, competitors final pricing levels, and successful electrical contractor.
Review current estimating procedures and available estimating software applications.
Evaluate and recommend changes or modifications to bidding procedures and/or strategy to management.
Perform CAD/BIM drafting as requested.
Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar studies is preferred
Minimum of 3 years of electrical estimating experience on industrial/healthcare/water and wastewater utilities projects
Knowledge and proficiency with NEC requirements and basic electrical engineering calculations (voltage drop, Ohm's law, conduit fill, wire ampacity, de-rating, etc.)
Extensive experience with one of the major computerized estimating programs (Accubid and LiveCount preferred)
Extensive experience with Excel and Word
Familiarity with BIM/Revit - Sysque applications
Familiarity with Procore project management software
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
