Mechanical Sub-Systems Engineer, Entry Level

Scaled Composites
Mojave, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 5/22/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/22/2026

What you’ll do:

Depending on size and complexity, a Subsystems Engineer may own one or more vehicle systems (Propulsion, Fuel / Energy Storage, Electrical, Avionics, Landing Gear, Flight Controls, Hydraulics, Environmental Controls / Pressurization, etc.), or they may work on a team helping to develop a single system to maturity. Regardless, these engineers are responsible for fleshing out an initial requirement and translating that into a design that meshes with the overall aircraft goals. This means conceptualizing a solution, negotiating detailed requirements, performing detailed design and analysis, developing definition (models, drawings, schematics, work instructions), supervising fabrication and installation, defining and performing operational tests, and ultimately, acting as a system subject matter expert as the vehicle moves into integrated tests and flight.

The Subsystems Engineer will get to explore the nooks and crannies (i.e. bowels and hell-holes) of our airplanes all while smelling like jet fuel, contorting under cabin floors, climbing into engine nacelles, squinting at multi-meters, and trying to figure out why the thing isn’t doing the thing it’s supposed to. If this is your idea of a good time, we’d love to learn more about you!

About Scaled

Founded by visionary aircraft designer Burt Rutan, Scaled Composites has been in the business of Designing, Building, and Flying unique airplanes and spacecraft for over 40 years. We are a modestly sized company, constantly building small teams of empowered and capable employees to achieve extraordinary accomplishments in aerospace.
