SC Steel LLC was established January 2, 2018, as a subsidiary of FabSouth and acquired the assets of SMI-Owen Steel Company, Inc. on April 1, 2018. SMI-Owen Steel Company had owned the business since 1994 when they acquired it from South Carolina Steel Company. The Upstate South Carolina facility has been in operation at this location since 1952.
Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Project Manager. This team member will manage all aspects of the structural steel project to meet or exceed our customers' expectations. The team member will be the single point of contact for our customers, interacting with the general contractor, steel erector and miscellaneous steel provider, as well as other trades to coordinate work and deliveries.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Safety coordinate with subcontractors safety professionals and ensure safe performance for SC Steel and its subcontractors.
- Quality identify any quality issues in the field and communicate with fabrication plant
- Communication communicate with general contractor, subcontractors, suppliers, and other trades
- Problem Solving identify issues early and work with all parties to create common sense solutions that maintain budget and schedule
- Coordination oversee and manage all aspects of the structural steel project including:
- Schedule
- Drawing progress
- RFI submittals and responses
- Fabrication progress
- Subcontractor and supplier progress
- Erection progress
- Schedule create and maintain the fabrication and erection schedules in coordination with subcontractors and suppliers. Identify critical path activities and manage them to minimize impact on the overall project schedule.
- Purchasing negotiate and purchase the following:
- Joist & Deck
- Erection
- Miscellaneous Steel (stairs and rails)
- Field bolts, anchor bolts and accessories
- Work with the Procurement Manager to monitor the purchase of structural steel shapes for fabrication; identify issues and assist in resolution
- Change Order Management
- Accounting understand costs and track issues with cost overruns to maintain project budget, identifying opportunities for change orders to grow the gross margin by at least 2%. Work with the accounting department to submit billing packages and follow up on collections.
- Travel periodically visit jobsites and customer offices to foster communication and teamwork.
Required Skills & Traits
- Working knowledge of computers and computer software, including Microsoft Office applications
- Working knowledge of structural steel related codes and specifications
- Working knowledge of OSHA's 1926 standard for construction safety
- Ability to build coalitions and teams to accomplish goals
Education/Training/Experience
Bachelors degree in a construction focused field, and 5 years of project management experience in the steel construction industry or related field
