Job Description

JOB TITLE: ENDOSCOPY TECHNICIAN

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: DIRECTOR OF NURSING

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Cooperative work attitude toward co-employees, management, patients, visitors,

and physicians

2. Ability to make logical decisions and solve problems

3. Communicate clearly and proficiently

4. Ability to multi-task

5. Ability to stand for long periods and ability to walk

6. Physical strength for equipment needs and patient-care activities

7. Visual and auditory acuity for timely responsiveness and patient-care assessment activities

8. Ability to move quickly in response to patient needs

9. Ability to make frequent judgments and respond to routine problems

10. Ability to make occasional judgments and respond to disasters or emergencies, actual

events, or drills

REQUIREMENTS:

1. High school diploma or GED certification

2. Good communication skills

3. CPR certification

4. Strong ethical and moral character references

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

I. Duties

  • Inspects and confirms that instruments work properly
  • Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed procedure room procedures
  • Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays
  • Correctly uses, cares for and cleans instruments, supplies and equipment, using high level disinfectants per policy and according to Manufacturer’s Instructions.
  • Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety
  • Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician
  • Assists the physician in the procedure room according to established guidelines
  • Addresses patient needs during admission to the endoscopy room, with attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting
  • Identifies the patient and correct procedure according to policy and procedure and communicates with all members of the medical team
  • Provides comfort, reassurance to patient and maintains patient’s privacy and dignity

L. Explains procedures and care to the patient

M. Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care

personnel and documenting records accordingly

N. Performs with competence in emergency situations

O. Ability to check in patients if receptionist is absent

P. Performs specified functions to meet the requirements of each approved procedure

Q. Maintains up to date/accurate records for reprocessing equipment per regulatory guidelines

R. Participates in Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Infection Prevention Committee projects.
