Position Purpose:
Under general supervision, you’ll assist with the overall operation and upkeep of one of South Carolina’s most visited state parks. You’ll perform diverse duties guided by established procedures, ranging from maintenance and guest services to administrative support and interpretation.
Core Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist park visitors, offering accurate information about park rules, history, programs, and recreational opportunities
- Collect and account for park revenue; complete reports accurately and on time
- Perform custodial, groundskeeping, and preventative maintenance on park buildings and equipment
- Be able to run and operate the Tackle shop and the Office, making Reservations as well as selling retail
- Support public use operations including picnic shelters, trails, cabins, and waterfronts
- Assist with planning and executing short- and long-term projects
- Interpret the park’s natural and cultural resources to guests
- Help with office functions including answering phones, managing reservations, and coordinating daily schedules
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work culture rooted in stewardship and service
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma and one (1) year of relevant experience
OR an Associate’s degree in Park Management or a related field
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 year of customer service experience (hospitality, tourism, or public contact roles)
- 1 year of experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, or facility operations
- 1 year of experience handling cash or working with point-of-sale systems
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather and on uneven terrain
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, kneel, crawl, and work at heights
Physical & Work Environment:
- Outdoor setting and indoor office work
- Exposure to weather, cleaning chemicals, and basic hand tools
- Shift work includes weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings
