What are the responsibilities and job description for the AGLOW Exhibit Specialist (Seasonal) position at SC AQUARIUM?
Job Summary:
The Aquarium AGLOW Exhibit Specialist is responsible for staging, installation, maintenance and striking of Aquarium AGLOW installations at the South Carolina Aquarium. This position requires hands-on involvement that includes but is not limited to: carpentry, painting, wiring, installation, soldering and hanging signage and decorations. The Exhibit Specialist will maintain the overall daily appearance of the South Carolina Aquarium’s public spaces for the duration Aquarium AGLOW (mid-November through the conclusion of AGLOW). Frequently, this position may be required to work before or after normal business hours.
This is a seasonal, hourly position intended to start in mid-October and will conclude in mid to late January.
Essential Functions:
- Adheres to the South Carolina Aquarium Policies and Procedures.
- Maintains the daily appearance of public spaces at the Aquarium.
- Maintains and repairs current exhibits, ensuring exhibit interactives are operational.
- Maintains Aquarium Aglow elements, making sure all are operational for the following Aglow evenings.
- Attends meetings to discuss the status of current projects and to be briefed on new projects.
- Properly packs and stores seasonal promotional materials.
- Is able to work flexible hours throughout the week.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Unpacks and installs all displays pertaining to Aquarium Aglow.
- Troubleshoots Aquarium Aglow lighting issues, etc.
- Strikes Aquarium Aglow displays.
- Fixes Aquarium Aglow display issues before packing them up for the season.
- Organizes and stores Aquarium Aglow elements.
- Works with Animal Husbandry and Facility staff in assignments as necessary.
- Has excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Understands the proper use of industrial tools and equipment.
- Has basic finish carpentry skills.
- Has painting skills.
- Communicates effectively with fellow team members.
- Has the ability to problem solve creatively and resourcefully.
- Detailed-oriented to observe and identify issues with displays, lights, exhibits.
- Highly motivated and willing to learn.
- Has the ability to work with minimal supervision and can self-pace to stay on track.
- Has the ability to meet deadlines and to multi-task projects.
Education and Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Valid Driver’s License.
